Attorney Profile

Insurance attorney L. Craig Nierman represents individuals, families, and small businesses in insurance claims. 

In addition to practicing law, Mr. Nierman has taught Insurance Law as an Adjunct Professor at the law schools at the University of Iowa and Handong Global University in South Korea. He serves as an expert witness in insurance litigation and leads seminars for other attorneys on how to effectively deal with insurance companies. Prior to law school, he worked in claims for seven years for a Fortune 100 insurance company. 

He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Iowa, all federal and state district courts in Iowa, as well as the United States Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit.  He is a current or former member of the following:

  • American Bar Association (Tort, Trial, and Insurance Practice Section)
  • Christian Legal Society
  • Iowa State Bar Association (Professionalism Committee; Health Law and Litigation Sections)
  • Johnson County Bar Association

He graduated from the University of Iowa, College of Law with High Distinction and was named to the Order of the Coif.  During law school, he was a Law Merit Scholar, served as a judge for the Moot Court Board, and completed some graduate level work at the University of Iowa, College of Business.  He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of California, Davis.

Craig was born in Bloomington, Illinois and has lived in the Iowa City - Coralville area since 1993.  He has been married to his high school sweetheart for over twenty years.  They have two children and are active members of Parkview Church.  He enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, involvement in his kids’ activities, the fall color in Iowa, exercising with his Labrador Retriever, and white water rafting.
