Craig Nierman mediates and arbitrates insurance, tort, commercial, and healthcare claims.

A quarter-century litigation veteran, he has represented plaintiffs and defendants—including hospitals, individuals and families, insurers, domestic and international businesses, non-profits as well as government entities—in jury and bench trials, appeals, and arbitrations.

His insurance background includes first party (e.g., health, life, “no fault,” property, etc.) and third party (e.g., wrongful death, injury, employment, professional negligence, and business torts) claims as well as extracontractual damages, agent/broker errors and omissions, and subrogation cases.

His health law practice has involved complex reimbursement and revenue cycle issues (e.g., payer contracting as well as experimental, medical necessity, and exclusion questions), medical malpractice and devices, primary and secondary payor conflicts, provider contracts, and HIPAA compliance.

He also has significant experience in business litigation and transactions including contracts, commercial and residential real estate, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and a range of employment issues.

He has taught Insurance Law at the University of Iowa College of Law. Prior to law school, he managed claims and litigation in multiple jurisdictions for an international insurer, with stints in San Francisco, Indianapolis, and Iowa.

The American Arbitration Association as well as the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) have named Craig to their national panel of arbitrators. He has published on insurance arbitration and the psychological aspects of mediation; the Business Law textbook he co-authored is in its third edition. He has spoken at national and international legal forums including those hosted by the American Bar Association, American Arbitration Association, and law schools.

Craig married his high school sweetheart; they have two adult children. He values time with his family and friends, learning new things, and exercising, especially kayaking and mountain biking.
